Raising up families to provide care for children, and support for their carers. We are seeking families to open their homes for respite/emergency or longer-term foster care in partnership with Oranga Tamariki and people to offer support to those caring for children outside their own family.
Some vision from Margie:
"Kia ora Grace whānau across all of our campuses.
My name is Margie Rees and I wonder if you, like me are concerned about the hurting families across our nation affected through dysfunctional upbringings, poor mental or physical health, isolation, violence, addiction, poverty or abuse – yet, we can feel overwhelmed or unsure how to make a difference.
Today, because of family crisis or dysfunction there is a huge need for children to be placed in stable, loving families. This could be short term for respite or emergency care, or longer-term in fostering or even adoption. We could be part of the solution in supporting families – with care for their children at these vulnerable times.
Why us? We as God’s people are well placed to respond because we are a loving supportive community and most importantly we ourselves have been adopted into God’s family – for good.
God now calls us to demonstrate his love and acceptance to those most in need.
We have a mandate to love and care for the poor, the stranger, the widow and the orphan - repeated over 40 times through scripture – and to make it real, the widow today is often the single or unsupported parent and orphans are the fatherless or children unable to live in their own families.
James 1:27 describes caring for the widow and the orphan as a pure expression of our faith and response to God.
We believe it is God’s heart to further develop our culture within Grace to care for individuals and families and especially the most needy. There are many families who have already led the way within Grace and we honour and bless them for their commitment and outworking of love.
Today many churches throughout the world are stepping intentionally into this space of foster care and adoption and we can join this powerful and vital ministry by opening our homes to care for a child requiring respite or emergency care, short or long term fostering or even a permanent home for life.
Not everyone is called to care for other children – good news for some of you! BUT every Christian is called to demonstrate love to those in need in some capacity – and maybe that’s in supporting those within our church who are already doing the caring or will step up. They need friendship, advice, people available to jump in with practical support, financial help and most importantly prayer support and encouragement.
To quote Krish Kandiah in his book Home for Good – Where is God directing your focus to live out the Father’s heart of love to the vulnerable?
We’d love to invite you to find out more, to hear our vision, and to be inspired by stories of those who are involved and pathways to get involved yourself as a Carer or a Supporter.
Register here on the website and we’ll see you there."
