Homes for Disabled Young Adults - Jinja, Uganda

A project to see homes established for disabled young adults in their community.

Summary: These disabled young adults have grown up living at Home of Hope (a children’s home for disabled children) We want to see homes established where the adults can live their life, continue learning and participate in their community. Each home would be staffed with trained support workers, and social workers / therapists would be available to support the adults to live and participate in ordinary life outcomes. A piece of land has been purchased to build 8 homes and the first home has been started. We have young people ready to move into three such homes in 2024.

Resource:

NZ$80,000 to build each universally designed home to accommodate up to 4 disabled young adults.

NZ$1,500 to set up a home with basic equipment for cooking, washing, bathing, cleaning etc.

NZ$450 per month for support workers, food and sustainability.

Future Development:

We hope to build more universally designed homes for groups of disabled young adults to live in until they can take their next step in life.

These young adults hope to be able to grow their own food and be involved in income generating projects to build a self-sustaining life.

In time, we hope to provide training and support to sustain income generation.
